Principal Kathy Melton got me hooked on the idea of trying Smore. In a previous post, I shared with you my PR plan for this school year, which included sending weekly E-Newsletters to parents/stakeholders via Smore.
SMORE is incredibly easy to use! By having an educator’s membership, you’re able to create unlimited flyers, add custom backgrounds and see analytics about how many views your newsletter has, as well as location, how long they spent on the page and the number of clicks for each button or link.
Rather than starting from scratch each week, SMORE gives you the ability to duplicate a flyer and then make edits from there, so in the event you want news/information to carry on from one week to the next, you don’t have to re-type it. It’s nice to be able to see all of your flyers organized by month to refer back to, or even duplicate and edit for future flyers.
Once you create a flyer, SMORE provides you with my options in the Flyer Settings. You have the ability to set your flyer as Private (your flyer will not be publicly listed or featured on the website), Public (your flyer is public and will also appear in search engines) or Super (optimized to get as many visitors as possible). You have several options when it comes to the actual appearance of your flyers including a comment box, social media sharing buttons and your name/profile on the sidebar for people to “subscribe” to your flyers. Once my flyers are created, I use our school’s Messenger service to send an email blast out to parents & I’m always sure to archive them on the school website for easy reference for our parents (thanks for the idea Kathy Melton!)
The analytics feature is pretty awesome too, as if gives me great information, such as the number of visitors, time spent viewing your flyer, how many clicks each button or link receives, as well as where in the world your flyer is being accessed.
Finally, Smore allows you to view other flyers that are trending, or getting a lot of traffic, as well as featured flyers, which are the ones that Smore considers to be the most beautiful, informative and fun flyers. This is a great place to find other flyers and it’s awesome to see so many other schools/educators/administrators who use Smore!
For an annual fee of $59 for the “Educator’s Account”, you can see why Smore is my go-to tool to send communication to stakeholders. It’s definitely a tool I would recommend to anyone!
